Southern Cross Aviation was founded in late 1989, and initially specialized in the purchase, refurbishment and sale of turbo prop and light jet aircraft. A continuous need for parts and support for the refurbishment of said aircraft led to the establishment of the Parts Division in late 1990. Throughout the years this division has gradually grown in customer base, sales volume and scope of services offered. In 2000 the parts division acquired Skyparts, a Textron Lycoming distributor, in order to penetrate the Venezuelan Market. Southern Cross upon taking over the company took the previously struggling distributor’s Lycoming purchases from $250,000 a year to over 1.3 million in 2001 or a 520 % increase in a year and a half .Also in 2000 Southern Cross became the authorized Distributor for Parker Aerospace (Cleveland and Airborne) in Brazil. In early 2002 Southern Cross became the Teledyne Battery Products (Gill) distributor for Brazil and is currently working on adding more distributorships to its portfolio. Southern Cross currently holds about 16 distributorships and it currently has over 200 repeat customers and more than 5000 customers worldwide. Southern Cross is currently working on developing its new office located in Santiago, Chile and is looking at the possibility of establishing stocking locations in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay at its sister companies in those locations to be able to better serve its customers and markets.
